Manic-2

Located 22 km from Baie-Comeau, is a huge hollow dam linked to a power plant that was the first in the Manic-Outardes complex to come into service. It generated the electricity that Hydro-Québec transported along the world’s first-ever 735 000 volt power transmission line in 1965. During your visit you will have the opportunity to visit a hydroelectric station capable of serving a city of 250 000 people. Learn how electricity works and view an alternator firsthand.

Manic-5

The most renowned tourist attraction in the area, Manic-5, located 214 km north of Baie-Comeau on route 389, draws some 10 000 visitors each summer. Its most remarkable feature is the Daniel Johnson Dam, the largest buttressed multiple arch dam in the world, rising to a height of 214 m and extending 1,3 km. The dam’s 2,000 km2 reservoir is more than twice as large as Lac Saint-Jean. Visitors enter the dam from the enormous arches at its base, and then proceed to the top; they may also visit the underground powerhouse.

Tours of Manic-2 or Manic-5 are available four times daily, seven days a week at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. The Manic-2 tour lasts 90 minutes; the Manic-5 tour lasts 1 hour 45 minutes. Children must be accompanied by an adult. We welcome groups throughout the months of May and June. Reservations are necessary—please call 1-866-La Manic. No admission fee. Tours leave from the Manic-5 information center and the Georges-D’Or information kiosk at Manic-2. Both locations have gift shops. ID is required.

ATTENTON: Visitors age 18 and up must present proof of identification (insurance card, driver’s license, or passport) before visiting our facilities.
